CU-Boulder Alumni Association Officers and Directors 2010-2011
Overview
The Board of Directors is made up of officers and directors who provide guidance, counsel and vision for the association staff and volunteers serving the CU-Boulder Alumni Association. Directors are an important voice in determining the policies, guidelines and bylaws under which the association and its various programs operate.
The board is currently made up of 34 members, including officers and committee chairs. From a slate of nominees proposed by the Nominations Committee, the current board elects at-large members to overlapping three-year terms. Also serving on the Board are ex officio directors representing Student Affairs, the CU Foundation, Admissions Office, Directors Club, Parents Association, The Herd, and University Communications.
Directors attend board meetings in Boulder three times a year. They serve on standing committees that advise staff members responsible for specific association programs. Board and committee responsibilities require the involvement of directors between meetings as well. The association staff works hand in hand with board members by providing information to facilitate collaborative decision making and involvement in programs and activities.
Each year the board looks for energetic alums to replace board members when their three-year terms end. Board of Directors duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Attending all board meetings, preparing for agenda items and issues, and studying supporting materials
- Participating effectively in board activities and discussions by voicing opinions, displaying leadership and thinking creatively
- Serving as a member of a committee, being active in discussions and projects, and following through on ideas
- Representing the interests of everyone served by the association, without favoring any special interests
- Acting as an advocate for the association and the University of Colorado
- Identifying, cultivating and recruiting future leaders for the Alumni Association.
- Performing other duties and assuming other responsibilities assigned by the chair of the board.

The objective of the Operations Committee is to provide feedback, recommendations and strategic advice to the Board that aids the Executive Director and Staff of the Alumni Association in their efforts to strengthen ties between Alumni and the campus. The Committee reviews the infrastructure and direction for programs and activities under its purview in order to give guidance and advice for improving the effectiveness of Association sponsored events and programs. These would include the CU Heritage Center, Roaming Buffaloes travel program, policy and marketing of the Koenig Alumni Center, the Alumni Scholarships Program and the Annual Awards Program.

The Events and Outreach Committee provides support, guidance and feedback on the outreach programs and events of the Alumni Association. Such programs include chapters and affinity groups, pregames, the Herd, senior auditors and multiple educational, social and professional events. The committee serves in an advisory role to the events and outreach staff, provides feedback on existing programs and assists with the development and creation of new programming.

The Alumni Services Committee is responsible for providing visionary leadership for the Alumni Associations initiative, Forever Buffs. The Forever Buffs pathway encourages undergraduates, alumni and friends to connect through programs and services that help them engage, contribute and celebrate their Buff spirit. The Alumni Services Committee works with the Alumni Association staff to provide expertise and advice in developing the initiative. There are two action plans, one for students and another for alumni; the Committee will monitor the success of these plans. The committee will also spend time discussing the Student Membership program, the Herd, as well as revenue generating business partnerships.

The Communications Committee assists and advises in the Association’s communications activities and policies. The committee consults on the Alumni Associations magazine, the Coloradan, which is sent four times each year to more than 200,000 alumni, faculty and staff. The committee offers input and advice on the Association’s website, online directory and the Buffalum Notes electronic newsletter. The committee assists the Association in determining how to achieve greater visibility and more effective communications with alumni and to foster relationships with other campus entities.
